Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a military coup in September and sentenced more than 27 years in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

The justices found that the rioters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to step in, bring back stability and bring him back to power.
